One of boxing’s brightest young unbeaten prospects returns to action this Saturday night in Carson, California as 23-year-old phenom Diego Pacheco looks to elevate his career by taking on tough former world title challenger Maciej Sulecki.

Pacheco faced a much tougher-than-expected fight against Shawn McCalman last time out in April, a performance that raised some eyebrows among boxing fans and the media.

However, with McCalman being just one of four opponents to go all-out against Pacheco in his 21 fights, it’s still hard not to be impressed with what the young Mexican-American has done to date.

Diego Pacheco comes into this fight as a very high -1200 favorite (even as high as -1400 at some reputable books), with Maciej Sulecki returning as a +800 underdog.

Pacheco Serious Power at 168

At 6’4” tall and with a 79” reach, it’s safe to say that most opponents standing across from Diego Pacheco in the ring understand that they are already at a huge disadvantage in a fight before the first bell even rings.

However, it is not just his physical attributes that make Diego Pacheco such a dangerous fighter in the ring, but also the fact that he combines those natural advantages with tremendous two-handed power and excellent timing and reach.

At 35 years old, and with previous fights against Gabe Rosado and Daniel Jacobs, Sulecki certainly has the experience to give the young prospect a few rounds this weekend, and even make things difficult for him if he gets too reckless.

While many were quick to criticize Diego Pacheco’s last performance against Shawn McCalman earlier this year, many observers failed to take into account McCalman’s incredible athleticism in that fight, able to jump in and out of the pocket at will, and effectively nullify Pacheco’s beloved sledgehammer right hand as a result.

However, the adjustments Pacheco was able to make in the second half of the fight showed why he is so respected in the boxing world, especially at just 23 years old, being able to adapt to McCalman’s range technique, and punishing him more and more as the fight went on each time McCalman hit the bag.

But Maciej Sulecki doesn’t have the same athleticism that McCalman does, and he’s basically beatable at this point.

As tough as he is, that’s a bad recipe against a fighter who hits as hard as Diego Pacheco, and as a result, we see this fight ending early on Saturday.
