Novak Djokovic battled his way to a fourth US Open title last year, taking his total to 24 Grand Slam wins. He may have won gold at the Paris Olympics, but he hasn’t won a major for the first time since 2017.
To right that wrong, he must overcome Italian top seed Jannik Sinner and French Open and Wimbledon winner Carlos Alcaraz. Daniil Medvedev was a beaten finalist 12 months ago, and will be desperate to add to his Grand Slam title haul here in 2021. Meanwhile, players from the next generation such as Andrey Rublev, Hubert Hurkacz and Casper Ruud are all looking to go far at Queen’s.
Speaking of queens, Coco Gauff finally won her first title at the US Open last year, becoming the first American to win the tournament since Sloane Stephens six years earlier. Although, she has Australian and French Open winners Aryna Sabalenka and Iga Swiatek ahead of her in the race for a spot.
So far, things have been going well for champions Djokovic and Gauff, who will play in the second round today. And many of their homegrown talents such as Madison Keys, Emma Navarro, Frances Tiafoe, Taylor Fritz and Ben Shelton have also secured their passage. However, there is bad news for Danielle Collins, who joins the big first-round casualties of Stefanos Tsitsipas and Holger Rune in the men’s draw and Maria Sakkari and Jeļena Ostapenko in the women’s draw.
It’s another fantastic two weeks at Flushing Meadows. You won’t want to miss any of the action, so check out all the TV and streaming details below to find out how to watch the US Open tennis from anywhere — including free streaming.
